February 26, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

This week, the Executive Committee made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person 2021 Spring Meeting in Kauai and instead hold a Virtual Spring Meeting later in June (see below for new dates).  Many of us had been tentatively looking forward to the opportunity to enjoy an outstanding scientific symposium in the company of friends and family, amidst the great natural beauty of Hawaii.  As we always knew that it might, the pandemic has unfortunately again made our traditional meeting untenable.  The current travel restrictions for Kauai (and for many universities), the temporary closure of our host hotel, and the inability of many members to participate in the meeting each factored into the decision.  We investigated the option of moving the in-person meeting to various continental U.S. locations, but found that current constraints on group gatherings made this possibility impractical as well.  Although we are unanimous in our resolution to pivot to a virtual format, we are nevertheless saddened and disappointed.

For those who previously registered, the Executive Office will be processing full registration refunds.  For those with hotel reservations, your reservations will be cancelled by the Hyatt and deposit refunds will be issued next week.

Now for the good news:
We are pleased to announce that we will instead hold a VIRTUAL SPRING MEETING. Please save the NEW DATES: JUNE 25-27, 2021 and REGISTER today.

We hope that more members will be able to participate in the virtual meeting and we invite you to submit an abstract. The deadline to SUBMIT YOUR WORK will be extended until APRIL 1, 2021.

ASOPRS 2021 Virtual Spring Meeting Schedule

Thank you for your patience and understanding.  The Executive Committee is particularly grateful for the substantial efforts of our administrative staff to arrange Kauai and now to rapidly change plans in support of ASOPRS’ mission to advance education, research, and clinical practice .  We look forward to the opportunity to bring the ASOPRS community together virtually in June and hope that you will join us.
