ASOPRS Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) Travel Grants

As part of these efforts, ASOPRS is offering travel grants to eligible medical students and ophthalmology residents (PGY1-4) interested in OPS, to attend the ASOPRS Fall Scientific Symposium.

ASOPRS URiM Travel Grants are intended for medical students/residents who identify as underrepresented in medicine. Please see the Association of American Medical Colleges webpage for a definition of underrepresented in medicine.  

Eligibility:

1. Applicants must be a medical student at an accredited medical school, or PGY1-4 or intern at an ACGME approved program. 
2. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US or US territory or Canadian citizen.
3. Applicants must self-identify as an underrepresented minority. *Please see AAMC definition, linked here). This may include, but is not limited to, racial or ethnic identity, persons with a disability, persons who identify as LGBTQIA+, or those from marginalized backgrounds. 
4. Applicants must register and attend the ASOPRS Fall Scientific Symposium if selected.
5. Applicants must be a first time attendee of the ASOPRS Fall Scientific Symposium.

Preference will be given to applicants without robust exposure to OPS or OPS mentorship at their home institution.

Up to three (3) travel grants are awarded per year, maximum $2000 per grant. The grant is provided as reimbursement to recipients after expenses have been incurred. 

Reimbursements are limited to ASOPRS Fall Scientific Symposium registration, lodging during the meeting, airfare, travel expenses (transportation, parking, etc.), and meals not served during the meeting.
